Burning Weekend

Just back from the French Burning Weekend near Brussels, Belgium. So many of my favourite people in this world, except my top favourite of the all, my gunsteling. So much smiling my face was hurting. Such crazy beautiful freaks. So much love, so many hugs. Like a whole dance floor of the brightest stars building an amazing galaxy. And then today the comedown, not from drugs, but from being so high on emotion for three days. But it’s ok, enough hugs to get me trough. Thank you all for being so wonderful! Love you all!!!

Carfree Brussels

On days like these I love Brussels. Today was car-free Sunday, which means the whole of Brussels is freed from cars from 9 am till 7 pm. The sad thing is that by 7:15 it’s business as usual. But until then pedestrians, cyclist, skateboarders; Rollerbladers and all other non-motorised traffic have a free reign.

Saw the youngest punk rockers ever at Beursschouwburg: My Dog is Radioactive, a bunch of 10 year olds playing like it’s the only thing they ever did. The crowd loved it and I must say, they are better than a lot of band I’ve seen. So next time I see some mediocre pop-punk I can honestly say I’ve seen 10-year olds play better.

After that I went to Place Rouppe where the death of Semira Adamu was remembered with a few speeches and a concert by Asian Dub Foundation. The concert made me think about Fortress Europe and the hypocrisy around it. I’m glad there is this annual remembrance, because even I tend to forget how fucked up our European migration policies are. Fuck Frontex! Keep banging on the walls of fortress Europe!

To finish the night I went to Bonefooi, where Dans Dans played, a very good band. Don’t know how to describe them so I’ll go with the bio on the Bonefooi website: From garage jazz, psychedelic blues and ecstatic noir soundtracks to spacey rock-‘n-roll: the labels that get thrown at Dans Dans give a pretty good indication of the extent of their eclectic style.

On days like these I’m happy to live in Brussels, where so much is happening and where there’s so much good music. It wont be long until Autumn really sets in and I’ll be very glad to be heading off to South Africa. But for now I’m enjoying this time in the city I was born in and with the people I can truly call my friends.

Back home?

I’m back in Brussels, the only place I can call home, even though I’m not sure it still is. I’ve lived in my van and moved around for the last year and a half now and never stayed anywhere longer then a few weeks. Am I restless? Fleeing from responsibilities? Unambitious? Lazy? Lost? I don’t think so. I am following my heart, living my life as it feels right to me. It’s a choice I made and has been an easy one until now. It hasn’t taken much courage yet, being sponsored by the state after having burnt out in my IT job. Now the time has come to do or die. Time to earn a living independently building websites. Time for strength to go further on my chosen path. A path that will lead me to South Africa and who knows where. It’s a bit scary, but it feels good!

Still on the road

I wanted to post an update of our road trip, but there is no way I could formulate it any better than Helena did in On the road…

I might post my own thoughts and some pix after the road trip, but for now I’ll just summarise it as the best road trip I’ve done and I’ve been road tripping a lot the last year. Thank you quietriotgirl for going on this adventure with me!

Hitting the Spanish roads

Embarking on a new adventure, a road trip from Barcelona to who knows where. Arrived in Barcelona on Sunday to meet up with Helena and spending a few days here before hitting the Spanish roads together. As any good road trip should be, no fixed plans, lots of possibilities.

Left Brussels on Friday, heading for Monkey Town, Paris via the really nice N2 route national, that goes from the French-Belgian border near Mons straight to Paris. It takes longer then taking the highway, but not only saves money on péage, but makes for a beautiful journey through the North of France.

In Paris finally getting to see the legendary place called Monkey Town. Unfortunately skipping the plan for going down the catacombs, a lot more driving ahead the next days and spending a night under ground to crawl up and catch the first metro wouldn’t be the smartest thing. Next time!

Catching our two blablacar ride shares, we hit the road South. Having Monkey as co-driver is awesome, bringing back memories of our previous road trip together, the Koyote 2013 Spring tour. We got to enjoy my friend Nouty Bwoy’s hospitality and spend a night at his South France hide out. Thanks again for everything Nouty!

Finally got to Barcelona Sunday evening after getting stuck in traffic from the Costa Brava. It still being as hot as when I left here a month ago. Leaving Cara, the van, on the Montjuïc hill with a nice view of the city. Spending some time meeting up with friends and just slacking off.

After this it’s off to Calafou and then dropping by friends in Alforja and El Pinell de Brai here in Catalunya, going for a skinny dip in the most beautiful swimming place. After that probably heading North-West towards the Spanish Atlantic coast, Cantabria and Asturias where I’ll try to teach a South African chick to surf. And then back North via the French Atlantic coast up to the Lowlands.

If you have any tips or are somewhere on the road and wanna meet up, drop me a line. See you on the road!

Luna-C – SupaSets

I just found a back link to a page https://zonk.be/mp3/Luna-C_SupaSets.html that hosted all off Luna-C (the UK oldskool hardcore DJ) sets up to then. Then being way back in 2006 or so. By now there are many more sets, he had only 4 back then, all 12 of them available at http://www.kniteforcerevolution.com/sets-mixes/

I don’t see the point of hosting these sets on my website, the reason I did host them back then being that Luna-C didn’t have the web space to host them. So go over to www.kniteforcerevolution.com and get them there. Continue reading →
