At 6 P.M. on January 12, 2011 the mayor will be giving the first State of the City address of the new year. We need to let him and everyone else know that we aren’t entirely thrilled with the state of the city. The most important thing to remember will be the facts:
The city is facing a $179 million deficit.
The U3 unemployment rate is over 11%.
We are nearing 10 thousand homeless.
One in four (25%) San Diegans lacks health-insurance.
School dropout rates reaching 23%.
Going into the 4th full year of drought.
The jails are being filled with everyone who can’t afford to buy their justice.
The government is feeding on the livelihoods of the people it is supposed to serve with taxes, fees, fines, debts, and unlivable wages.
And no amount of electing will see the future of our youth brightened as long as the corporately-owned professional politicians are chosen to [mis]represent us year after year! We do not need a government to protect us from ourselves by limiting what we are allowed to do with our own bodies and minds.
We do not need police to protect us from each other with night sticks and guns.
These things only hurt us, make us fear those who are chosen to protect and serve us and they make us fear each other.
There need not be workers and bosses, citizens and politicians. We are one people! We are equal! It is time we started living like it
