Tumblr seems to be down 50% of the time lately. And a few weeks ago it was out for almost a day. 

And it doesn’t even have a failwhale to make up for that. 😉

The comparison with Twitter holds true in that both received a lot of hype and seem to keep growing in popularity even though they both seem to suffer great technical difficulties that greatly impact the users. For Twitter there is a good alternative in Identi.ca, but what is the alternative for Tumblr? WordPress seems to be the most likely candidate, but doesn’t deliver the same possibilities as Tumblr, at least not out of the box (and not with a lot of tweaking either as far as I can tell). Anyone up to the task of making an open source, decentralised alternative to Tumblr? 😉
